This type of restaurant offers the normal Brazilian barbecue - churrasco, which comprises of whole cuts of meat which are skewed and barbecued in a “churrasqueira” made of bricks. The meat is grilled and then served at the table, in a service called a rodízio.
Passadores (meat waiters) walk around the establishment, each person handling a specific type of meat. They come to your table with a knife and a skewer and each individual can then either choose to take some of the meat or pass. For the inexperienced it can become quite an overwhelming experience as skewer upon skewer is presented to the table.
Numerous kinds of meat are brought around, normally various cuts of beef, pork, lamb, chicken, duck, seafood, sausage, or any other local types of meats. Be sure to try the barbecued pineapple with cinnamon and sugar!
The “churrascarias” generally supply, complimentary to the meat, an all-you-can-eat buffet. Generally, the buffet serves salads, rice, beans, and some fish stew.
