The name derives from cheeseburger, which, influenced by the country's native language, Portuguese, became simply known as "X", and pronounced sheeez. Sandwiches are the preferred type of snack in Brazil. While sandwiches are typically a complete lunch in North America, they are thought of as a light snack in Brazil. This is basically due to the way they are prepared, with limited meats, vegetables and cheeses used. Sandwiches are usually two slices of bread, mayo, cheese and meat. Sandwiches aren't the only type of snack available though!
A small pastel, pao-de-queijo, or a croquete (ground beef breaded and deep fried) are common alternatives as well. Some Brazilians even have sandwiches for dinner, which is always a considerably smaller meal for most Brazilians.
Sandwiches can also be the Sao Paulo “Beirute” and the Southern Brazil “X-burger”. The latter is bigger than a regular cheeseburger and may also be filled with a variety of meats, from chicken, to beef, to pork, and even chicken hearts! The name comes from the way Brazilians pronounce “cheese”, which evolved into the shortened version “X” (sheeez). The Beirute is a much bigger sandwich. This sandwich is toasted and also much larger than a regular hamburger or cheeseburger. It has a Arab influence, as the name “Beirute” suggests.

The official name is Gávea Beach, and this beach begins at the end of Avenida Niemeyer, stretching for three km, and ending at the São Conrado tunnel.
