The Theatre of ICEIA (Central Institute of Education Isaias Alves) is in the neighborhood of Barbalho and its inauguration took place in December 1939. With capacity for 1,300 spectators in wooden chairs, distributed in the audience, cabins, friezes and balcony, the theater was transformed into a center of culture and served as a test site for performances such as opera Brazil 500 King, the show the singer Daniela Mercury, among others.

Space, one of the biggest stages of Salvador, the construction had started in July 1937, the government Juracy Magellan during the tenure of Secretary of Education Isaias Alves, founder of the educational institute to which the theater would be added as part of a set where they developed innovative educational practices and comprehensive. The construction of the building was completed two years later, in November 1939, the government has Landulfo Alves de Almeida. The architectural design of the ICEIA, designed from the ideal of Alvaro Augusto da Silva, provided that space was only used as an auditorium of the institution, designed to accommodate school parties, theatrical performances and films aimed at students.

Open to the public, the auditorium was renamed the Theatre ICEIA, enjoying great prestige among the artistic class.

It now houses mainly events such as lectures, seminars, dance, music and theater. There is also an exhibition hall, meeting the demands of artistic and community groups, the assignment of scores. There are also two dressing rooms, backstage and onstage with the projection room.

Designed to be a high school auditorium, the theater has no air-conditioning, or architectural design from the standpoint of acoustics. The theater has come to be closed, having been recovered by the Cultural Foundation of the State, through the Directorate of Cultural Infrastructure and Regional Actions (Decaro) now Dimaco (Board of Music and Performing Arts), responsible for managing the space since 1994.
