Parque Nacional da Serra dos Órgãos
The National Park of the Organ Mountains is a conservation unit located in the massif of the Organ Mountains, covering the municipalities of Teresopolis, Petropolis, Mage and Guapimirim, with an area of 20,030 hectares. It is permanently open to visitors. It is administered by the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio). Usually from May to September is open season for mountaineering, with adventurers from all over seeking direct contact with nature. The main road is crossing Petropolis-Teresopolis, which requires three days and is considered the most beautiful hike in Brazil.
Altitudes of between 100 and 1,500 meters, called the montane forest, the vegetation reaches 40 meters, where we find species like baguaçu, jequitibá, cinnamon and cinnamon-santa, much admired for its yellow blossoms. Already above 2,000 meters, the vegetation is represented mainly by grasses and weeds that grow on rocks.

The fauna is rich and diversified, becoming one of their last strongholds in região.São 462 species of birds, the largest richness recorded in the Atlantic, 82 species of mammals, 83 reptiles and 102 amphibians. 130 threatened species are protected by the park. Among the mammals include the spider monkey (B. arachnoides), the largest primate in the Americas and large carnivorous predators such as cougar, threatened with extinction. In 2008 researchers found traces of jaguar (Panthera onca), considered extinct in the region. Among the endangered birds are tietê and guan-to-crown, an endemic bird of the Organ Mountains. They can also be seen the aracaris, forming beautiful contrast with the vegetation. One caution is to be taken with venomous snakes such as pit viper and jaracuçu that camouflaged by leaves moving in search of prey unawares.

Besides the beauty and importance of conserving their species, Parnassus is one of the best places in the country for the practice of mountain sports like climbing, hiking, rappelling and more. The crossing Petropolis-Teresopolis, 30 km walk with heavy by high mountains, is considered the largest long-distance hiking beautiful Brazil.
The 90 kilometers of Rio de Janeiro, or less than two hours by road, the park hosts many year-round visitors. Its main access is by highway BR-116 Rio Teresopolis.
