Institute of Crafts Visconde de Maua
Created on 20.03.1939 and Industrial Institute Female Visconde de Maua, in order to provide, in the main population centers of the state, the clothing industry at home.
In 1966 it was transformed into a local authority, linked to Setrabes / Department of Labor and Social Welfare under the name Industrial Institute Visconde de Maua, whose purpose was to teach and coordinate the teaching of handicraft in the state.
In 1983 changed its name to Institute of Crafts Visconde de Maua, local authority of the Secretary of Labor and Social Welfare, currently SETRAS / Department of Labor, Welfare and Sport, with the purpose of implementing the policy of preservation, promotion, promotion and Bahia marketing of handicrafts.
The Maua is included in the COP / Brazilian Handicraft Program - MIDC / Ministry of Foreign Trade and Development, which implements the artisan growth stock raising its cultural level, social and economic partnership with the State Coordinators Craft of the 26 states and the Federal District.

It promotes the production of handicrafts Bahia, organizing and strengthening the production centers, associations and cooperatives, encouraging the skills of artisans;
