Brazilian Academy of Letters
The Academia Brasileira de Letras building, ia a replica of the Trianon at Versailles,and it was built to house the French delegation at the International Exhibition celebration of Brazil independence in 1922, and later donated by the Government of France to host the Brazilian Academy of Letters.
During the guided tours, lasting one hour, the public has the opportunity to meet the dependencies the "Machado de Assis House."
The Brazilian Academy of Letters is an institution that was founded on July 20, 1897.
Composed of 40 members and perpetual, elected by secret ballot and 20 corresponding foreign members, is aimed at the cultivation of the national language and literature.
The Memory of Academia Brasileira de Letras is made up of museum and archival collections relating to the history of the Academy and the life and work of the Patrons, Full Members and Corresponding Members.
The Archive of the ABL has a wide variety of textual and iconographic documents. It consists of correspondence, speeches, original literary works, photographs and periodicals. These documents accumulated by the Academy since its founding in 1897, are treated according to contemporary archival standards.
The Archive is composed of two lines of the acquis: the Archive of Academicians, the personal documentation of the sitting members, patrons and partners and the corresponding Institutional Archives, with the administrative and operational documentation. News and literary texts published in newspapers and magazines form the Newspaper Library, another valuable source of research on the Academic and the Academy.
The museum collection consists of the ABL works of art, period furniture and decorative art pieces as well as personal belongings of Academicians. In the collections of painting and sculpture include works by Portinari, Rodolfo Bernardelli, Carollo Gomes, Manuel Santiago, Leo Veloso and Bruno Giorgi.
Much of this collection is on permanent exhibition at the Petit Trianon and can be seen through the Virtual Tour. Other parts are on the premises of the Cultural Center of the Academy.
Archive Machado de Assis. Inventory. 2003 (48 pp.).
This inventory is a result of work of the Archive staff of the Brazilian Academy of Letters and aims to map and reveal to researchers and documentation on Machado de Assis in the archive of scholars, providing references minimally safe for the life of his recontextualization holder. All the items that compose it aims to clarify the researcher, not only in relation to the collection itself, but also to point succinctly, the route traveled by archivists in the treatment applied.

The general guide for Academic Archive is the first instrument produced by the archival project to revitalize the Archive of the Brazilian Academy of Letters, begun in 1997, the centenary of the ABL, the management of academic Nelida Piñon. The general guide for Academic Archive is published at the time the project is fully deployed, the acquis in the ongoing process of organization and fully mapped, with a permanent team of archivists and interns in Archival and care routines statements.
The Archive has designed the name of the Brazilian Academy of Letters in national and international archival media. A proof can be found at the addresses below.
