Jardim Botanico in Rio de Janeiro

The Botanical Garden, planted in the 1800s. It is both a park and a scientific laboratory. It contains a huge collection of plants from all over the world, not only tropical ones. If you take the bus note that Jardim Botanico is also the name of a neighborhood so make sure you take the right one to the entrance. The admission is R$5. The gardens are well kept and very lush. Not far from the cafe, first you hear swooshing sounds. Look up and you can see small monkeys swinging from tree to tree.

acclimate the spices from the East Indies: with this objective was that in June 13, 1808, the Garden of D. Acclimatization John, Prince Regent at the time, and later d. John VI.

With the threat of invasion by Napoleon Bonaparte's troops in Portugal, the Portuguese nobility moved to Brazil and established the headquarters of the government in Rio de Janeiro. Among other benefits, the city gained a Gunpowder Factory, built in the old Sugar Mill Sugar Cane Rodrigo de Freitas.

Delighted with the exuberant nature of the place, then D. John installed the Garden, which on October 11 of that year, passed the Royal Garden. For a historical mistake to believe that the first plants were brought from Gabrielle Garden, where they came from many plants, especially during the Napoleonic wars. But the Garden era in the Guianas Gabrielle and the first plants that arrived here came, in fact, of Mauritius, Pamplemousse La the Garden, by Luiz de Abreu Vieira e Silva, who offered the D. John 1. Among them was the Palma Mater.

Open to the public after 1822, the Garden has had many famous visitors: Einstein, Queen Elizabeth II of Britain and many others.

Many naturalists and administrators contributed to the trend of the Botanical Garden, as Frei Leandro, Serpa Brandão, Cândido de Oliveira Baptista, Custodio Serrao, Karl Glasl Joao Barbosa Rodrigues, Pacheco Leão, Campos Porto, João Geraldo Kuhlmann and current president Liszt Vieira
