Palácio Gustavo Capanema
Capanema The Palace is one of first examples of modern architecture in Brazil.
Its construction occurred from 1937 to 1945. The project inspired by Le Corbuisier, was led by Lucio Costa and had a young team comprised of architects Oscar Niemeyer, Carlos Leão, Jorge Moreira, Ernani Affonso Eduardo Reidy and Vasconcellos.
It is known as the building of MEC since served as headquarters of the Ministry of Education and Culture. In moving the capital to Brasília, the name changed to the Palace of Cultura.O current name (since 1985) is a tribute to the minister that at the time, ordered its construction.
The building has 16 floors and is built on an area of 27,536 meters square.
The choice of building materials was also quite daring: iron and concrete, mixed gneiss and tile panels. Lioz marble were used, glass brick English mixed with yellow marble.
It has large outdoor garden and rooftop garden, designed by Roberto Burle Marx.
The tiles are the work of Candido Portinari, there are important pieces of sculpture by Antonio Celso Lipschitz on the stairs, into the outside wall of the auditorium and Alfredo Ceschiatti gardens. There are also works by Guignard and Pancetti.
