Rio de Janeiro Travel Information
Trails in Tijuca National Park
Great Trail Circle of Tijuca National Park consists of two concentric circular tracks: external Major Archer (approximately 35 km) and internal Castro Maya (about 15 km), the latter at an altitude lower than the first and designed to incorporate into your track caves, historic buildings, ruins and restaurants.
Entrance Gate - Excelsior Road (Student Track)
Road Excelsior - Bom Retiro: This is a piece of high difficulty and incorporates in its course the main peaks of the Park (Andaraí Major, and Tijuca Tijuca Mirim).
Bom Retiro - Cova da Onça: it is the most difficult stretch of the Trail Circular of the NTP. It was planned to incorporate Peaks Archer, Parrot, Cockaigne and Taquara and, under a management standpoint, maintaining open and well-maintained, access to Quitite and Hinterland. At the beginning of the passage is the bathroom and place to park cars. At the end of the section, there is a restaurant (Squirrels), bathroom and place to park cars.
Cova da Ounce - Forest Restaurant: At this point the Great Circle Track Tijuca was planned to offer a point of contact between the tracks and Major Archer Castro Maya. Here, the Walker interested in the trail traverse the entire Great Circle Track Tijuca, amends the Trail with Circular External Affairs.
The passage leads to the dam of Solitude, the ruin of the old farm Cafe Almeida, re-visit, for different access, the Visitors Center, rises to the skull and ends at the Forest Restaurant. On the way, the visitor passes through areas populated with exotic and native species, see the ruins that mark the former occupation of the Park, has access to the Visitor Center (it is important that both the Internal and External Trail pass through the center so visitors to contemplate the vacationers who decide to go only one of two).
Restaurant Forest - Cova da Onça (Caves Trail): It begins and ends in restaurants, allowing the acquisition of supplies along the path. Sections are natural and cultural. The latter included the Wallace Fountain, Ruins of Humaitá coffee farm, the restaurant itself and the Chipmunks Bridge Barcellos, among others. At the end of the section, there is a restaurant (Squirrels), bathroom and place to park cars.
Cova da Ounce - Entrance Gate (Trail Museum Weir): At this point the tracks and Major Archer Castro Maya meet again. Here, hikers interested in travel throughout the Great Circle Track Tijuca amendment again the Trail with Circular External Affairs. This is the last stretch of the Great Circle Track Tijuca. Attractions include the Museum of the dam and all its attractions and the magnificent Belvedere's Waterfall, which has a unique vision of the Tijuca National Park. At the end of the section, there is a restaurant (Na Praça Afonso Viseu), bathroom, place to park cars and public transport.
The Trail provides an overview of the hiker's park, allowing an understanding of the whole. In order to serve as a tool for environmental education is important that a long distance trail gives.
