Instituto Arqueológico, Histórico e Geográfico de Pernambuco

Em visita a Pernambuco durante o século 19, o então imperador do Brasil, Dom Pedro II, impressionou-se com a riqueza histórica da ainda província e sugeriu que fosse aberto um espaço para a divulgação desse material. Como resultado foi fundado em 1862 o Instituto Arqueológico, Histórico e Geográfico de Pernambuco, encarregado de manter viva a memória do estado.

Instalado no centro do Recife desde 1928, depois de ter peregrinado por várias sedes, o Instituto é dividido em espaços temáticos como, por exemplo, a Sala das Lutas Libertárias, que possui dois painéis retratando a Batalha dos Guararapes, além de uma coleção de armas do século 17 ao 20. Na biblioteca, está a edição (1647) de um livro, escrito em latim pelo humanista Gaspar Barleus, retratando os oito anos de governo do Conde João Maurício de Nassau.
