Igarassu historic site

The municipality of Igarassu is located approximately 30 km from Recife, on the northern coast of the metropolitan region of Pernambuco State. One of its main attractions, besides its beautiful sandy beaches and calm waters, is its Historic Site, one of the Civil and Religious Heritage of the most important country, which highlight the Church of Saints Cosmas and Damian, one of the oldest Brazil, and the Convent of St. Anthony, where is the Pinacoteca Museum of Igarassu.

When originated, until the sixteenth century, the city of Igarassu Caetés was inhabited by Indians, where his main activity was fishing and agriculture.

In the year 1535 throughout the territory was conquered by the Portuguese Duarte Coelho and proclaimed Governor of the Captaincy of Pernambuco.

Refugio Ecologico Charles Darwin Charles Darwin's Refuge is a private institution located in the municipality of Igarassu over 40 years.
