Victor Meirelles Museum
In this old building features colonial Luso-Brazilian, born painter, designer and teacher Victor Meirelles de Lima (1832-1903), author of famous paintings: The First Mass in Brazil, Naval Battle of Riachuelo, Pass Humaitá, Moema and Marriage Princess Elizabeth.
The house, built in stone masonry, bricks and stucco, fences have openings with wooden roof with tiles and cover channel and eave edge-type seveira. Acquired by the Union in 1947 and National Heritage and National Art in 1950, the manor houses since 1952, the Victor Meirelles Museum, where exhibits on the upper floor, a collection of paintings and sketches by Victor Meirelles and the ground floor works by contemporary artists.
The mission of the Victor Meirelles Museum, set in its Plan Museum, namely: "To preserve, research, and the life and work of Victor Meirelles, and disseminate, promote and preserve the historical, artistic and cultural society, and also stimulate reflection and experimentation in the arts, heritage and contemporary thought, contributing to the expansion of access to the most different cultural events and for training and exercise of citizenship. "
