Northeast Brazilian The Northeast area of Brazil, mainly the states of Alagoas, Bahia, Ceará, Maranhão, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte, and Sergipe, composes geographically of a slim, fecund coastal plain with plentiful rainfall in which a large amount of the population is found, an equally thin transition zone known as the Agreste, and a significant semi-arid section labeled the Sertão, which is mastered by massive cattle ranches.
