São Paulo Municipal Market
The construction of the important building in the neoclassical style of more than 22 000 m² started in 1928. It has exquisite workmanship and beautiful collection of stained glass, which took four years to complete. This is the Municipal Market of São Paulo.
At that time, the place had no prospects of success due to lack of means of transportation in the region. At that time the trams were exclusive of merchants and their goods, and "Little Train Cantareira," a composition that was supplying the market directly inside.
Currently the property is a national reference for its diversity of aromas, colors and flavors such as fruits, vegetables, wines, cheeses, chocolates, meats, fish, seafood, poultry, sausages, seasonings, condiments and other options available in the emporiums, providing the customer, in addition to all this variety, the opportunity to sample products and enjoy the atmosphere full of history of the building.
Between 1927 and 1933 the complex served as headquarters for the 1932 Revolution. In addition, the architecture of the building, designed by renowned office Francisco de Paula Ramos de Azevedo, is studied by academics and researchers.
The market is also famous for fish cake and bologna sandwich, that have become a reference.
