MASP - Arte Moderna Museum in São Paulo
The Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo MAM is a public interest civil society, non-profit, and is one of the most important museums in Latin America. They are part of his collection more than 5000 works, bringing together over one thousand artists among the most expressive of modern and contemporary art in Brazil. The MAM maintains an annual schedule of major exhibitions and promotes every two years, the panorama of Brazilian art, one of the most important and traditional exhibitions periodically held in Brazil. The museum also has an intense program of cultural and educational activities, with courses, workshops and visits. The mission of spreading the art and culture is supported by the Library of MAM, which offers more than 65 thousand titles and documents for experts and the general public and by industry publications, with the publication of catalogs, and specific works of the quarterly magazine Modern. The educational sector of the MAM serves students from public and private, and create and disseminate educational and cultural projects for people with special needs. MAM is located in Ibirapuera Park, the most important green area of ​​São Paulo, between the Pavilion of the Biennale and Oca, a set designed by Oscar Niemeyer in 1954. MAM's building was renovated by Lina Bo Bardi in 1969 to house the headquarters of the museum. Facilities are part of the MAM two exhibition galleries, studios, library and an auditorium for two hundred people, plus a restaurant and a museum shop, with objects of design and products with the brand of the MEM. The exhibition area, restaurant and indoor spaces are visually integrated into the vegetation of the Ibirapuera Park and the Sculpture Garden, which houses works from MAM's collection in an area of ​​6 acres with landscaping by Burle Marx. History The MAM was founded in 1948 at the initiative of businessman Francisco Matarazzo, and its creation was inspired by the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, with the concomitant rise of the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro (MAM-RJ).
