Historico da Imigracao Japonesa no Brasil Museum
The Historical Museum of Japanese Immigration in Brazil was inaugurated on June 18, 1978, created the great achievement of the 70th. anniversary of Japanese immigration to Brazil. The opening ceremony was attended by the then Crown Prince Akihito of Japan and by President Ernesto Geisel.
The goal of the Brazilian Society of Japanese Culture - Bunkyo, responsible for the initiative was to record and preserve all he could tell the life of Japanese immigrants in Brazil. Currently MHIJB sum of 1,592 m² exhibition area is divided into three floors: the seventh, eighth and ninth floors, located in Building Bunkyo, right in the neighborhood of Liberdade.
The collection includes about five thousand objects, 10 000 photos 28 000 documents, including books, journals, newspapers and magazines. In the library it is possible to consult books and documents on site.
The first two floors were built in 1978 and collect objects and documents ranging from the signing of the Treaty of Amity Brazil / Japan (1895), the first arrival of immigrants (1908), the colonial settlements (from 1913) until the polyculture.
The ninth. floor, opened in November 2000, focuses on the 50 postwar years. In it are depicted the changes in the Nikkei community, the coming of Japanese companies, as well as the contribution of nipo-Brazilians to Brazilian society.
In another floor (3rd floor) are located and the library collection, which number more than 5,000 objects, 28,000 written documents (including journals, books, newspapers, magazines) and about 10 000 photos related to Japanese immigrants.
