Fundacao Maria Luisa e Oscar Americano

The Maria Luisa and Oscar Americano Foundation was established by Oscar Americano in March 1974, two years after the death of Maria Luisa Ferraz Americano, donating to the city of São Paulo, the house where their children lived for 20 years as well as a collection of works of art and an extensive park.

Preserving nature, gathering papers and documents connected with the history of Brazil, doing courses, concerts and other cultural activities, the Foundation Maria Luisa and Oscar Americano offers visitors an overview of past and present of the country broadened and enriched continuously, the Foundation space provides an overview of the various stages of our history. In the midst of plants and trees of various kinds, the Brazil-wood to the coffee plant, is the house designed by architect Oswaldo Arthur Bratke in 1950.

There, you can visit a collection consisting of paintings from the seventeenth century, furniture, silverware, porcelain, tapestries and sacred art of the eighteenth century. What gives unity to the extensive temporal scope of the acquis (about four centuries), as well as its thematic breadth, is the feeling of Brazilianness that it is present and remains alive among those responsible for its continuity.

In the area chosen to build his house, there was an existing vegetation which consisted mainly of pine and eucalyptus. Then he introduced a rich and diverse park, with the presence of the main trees of the brazilian flora. Otávio Teixeira Mendes ​​was the landscape architect chosen to design and deploy the park. The contract stipulated that his services would be paid "for quality tree, planted and avenged." There are copies of jacarandas, sibipiruna, angicos, iron sticks, pau-Brazil and many others, a vivid and condensed picture of extensive natural wealth of Brazil. The Foundation provides guided visits with specific roadmaps to the visitor's interest, whether spontaneous or scheduled. Scheduled for groups such as schools, the script is first designed to meet the specifics raised by the group responsible. The educational activities have the ultimate goal to inform, enhance the critical eye of the visitor on the works of art.
