Palácio dos Bandeirantes

Palacio dos Bandeirantes

The current seat of Government of São Paulo was built to house the University "Foundation Conde Francisco Matarazzo". The initial project, conceived in 1938 by Italian architect Marcello Piacentini, presented abstract lines, columns, walls smooth and wide facade. When it started to leave the paper in 1954, under the direction of the engineer Francisco New Monteiro, it presented its Italian style with neoclassical influence.

The building became property of the state government of Sao Paulo. On April 19, 1964 moved its headquarters from the Palais des Champs Elysees to the new building in the neighborhood of Morumbi, naming it "the Bandeirantes Palace" in tribute to those who expanded the country's borders to the hinterland. Today, the site has three functions: it is the headquarters of the State Executive Branch, Governor's residence and museum.

From 1970, under the government de Abreu Sodre, begins a movement to make the Palace a center of culture, with the establishment of collections of furniture, paintings and objects. A commission was created with names such as Oswald de Andrade, Paulo Mendes de Almeida, Silvia Asuncion Sodre, Marcelo Ciampolini and Pedro Antonio de Oliveira Neto to start the acquisition of works of art now in the Collection of Artistic and Cultural Palaces Government.

The Noble Hall displays panels Antonio Henrique Amaral, Clovis Graciano, Candido Portinari, Djanira Motta e Silva, Tomie Ohtake, Alfredo Volpi and Aldemir Martins. In the Hall of Dispatches, are the works of José Theodoro da Silva Braga, Oscar Pereira da Silva, Benedito Calixto and Pedro Américo, facts and scenarios depicting the state. During the visits, which are guided and take place every hour, you can still see the Hall of dishes and the Gallery of Governors.
