Hippie Village of Arembepe in Salvador
The most famous of the hippie communities in Brazil is the village of Arembepe, 58 km from Salvador. Visitors get to know the peculiar way of life in this village, which has changed little since it's formation in the late 1960's. The villagers spend the day humming Caetano, Gil and Janis Joplin while making arts and crafts, maintaining many traditions from the early days of the village. The houses are primarily clay or stone, without modern electricity or running water.
Spend some time talking to the locals and perhaps picking up a few of their handicrafts, soak up the warm water from the Rio Capybara, and breath the fresh air. When your time is up, return back to the 21st century with your handicraft and blog about your experiences!
