Afro-Brasileiro Museum
Museu Afro-Brasileiro is part of the cultural exchange program between Brazil and African countries. The majority of the material has been inspired by Africa and includes religious beliefs, artistic manifestations and oral trandition of the African people. The Afro-Brazilian Museum of the Federal University of Bahia is one of the few in the country to deal exclusively with African cultures and their presence in Brazilian culture. Through important material elements, representative of these cultures, the museum features contents that facilitate the understanding of historical, artistic and ethnographic African societies that identify and allow for reflection on the importance of this matrix for the development of Brazilian society.
Since its opening in 1982, the Museum helps to encourage the understanding of cultural diversity, which constitutes a reference space for actions of identity affirmation. Developing a project designed to service the public school as an incentive for law enforcement 10.639/03 that determines the inclusion of African history and culture and african-Brazilian in the school curriculum, spreading knowledge about these cultures, to contribute to the elimination of racial prejudice and combating religious intolerance.
Admission includes entry to the Afro-Brazilian Museum and the Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology, located in the same building.
