Arte Sacra de Pernambuco Museum

Pernambuco Sacred Art Museum (MASPE) is located in one of the most beautiful views of the city of Olinda, the Alto da Sé. It was from there that Duarte Coelho, in the 16th century, founded the town of Olinda.

The historic building, which houses the museum since 1974, has served as the Senate of Olinda, college, headquarters and home for nuns. Much of the acquis in the MASP, which confirms the Sacred Art of Pernambuco as one of the richest in the country, was donated by the Archdiocese of Olinda and Recife.

Eighteen passages of passion, death and resurrection of Christ, made ​​up of eighteen artists from the state are portrayed in the work of the Via Sacra Craftsman. Another highlight is the northeastern crib where you can notice the presence of myths of the region as Lampião, Antonio Conselheiro and Zumbi dos Palmares.
