Concatedral of Saint Peter of Clerics

The Brotherhood of the Clerics of St. Peter, established in June 26, 1700, bought almost 20 years later, a garden and six houses situated in the middle of Green Water in the neighborhood of Santo Antônio da Vila Recife, for the construction of a church itself. An inscription in the church carried reports that the start of construction took place on May 3, 1728. Present were Fr José Fialho and the provider of the Brotherhood. The project is Manuel Jacome Ferreira. The consistory, the chancel and sacristy acapela were ready as early as 1729, but the church body and the central part of the façade was completed only in 1759.

Then we constructed the two bell towers. The Honorable Father Antonio Martins, Vicar of the town of Bom Jesus, was one of the carvers. John of God Sepulveda made ​​painting the ceiling of the nave in 1764, helped by Jesus Manuel Pinto, who painted the choir. The sacristy, the altar of Our Lady of Soledad, was inaugurated in 1781. Ignacio Melo Albuquerque was the master gilder works of carved, finished in 1784.

Besides its religious importance, in a certain period the church became an active center of sacred music, they began to as Master of the Chapel Pernambuco Luis Alvares Pinto (1719-1789), one of the great Brazilian colonial Damus.
