Church and Monastery of St. Benedict

Considered the richest church in Olinda, St. Benedict's totally baroque - carved cedar walls and covered with gold panels on the roof, sandstone columns, pulpits worked, sacristy sumptuous ... The greatest treasure is the altar, with 14 meters high and gold leaf from one extreme to another. The finished work has been exhibited in the Guggenheim Museum in New York. On Sunday mornings, the monks themselves open the heavy doors of rosewood and invite passersby to high mass.
Daily, in the late afternoon, the courtyard in front of the church becomes the meeting point for locals and tourists.
