Itamaracá Beach

This area is actually an island which comprises a city and several beaches.  Itamaracá is one of the oldest cities in Brazil, with much historical importance, and many ancient buildings still present, including Orange Fort from 1654.  The waters around here are calm, with many sand banks and small waves.  The area is perfect for diving, swimming or simply strolling along the beaches enjoying the many nearby stalls. 

Gavoa Beach and Ponta de Pedras Beach are also located on this island and are within easy walking distance.   Tours around the island via boat are plentiful and access to the island is via boat as well.  Many bars, restaurants and other businesses exist here, with a large dependence on tourism from nearby Recife and Olinda to support them.  It's a nice place with a lot of history to offer its visitors.
