Trekking at Santuario Ecologico de Pipa
For a nice tour through some environmentally protected areas in Natal, this tour will offer you a selection of trails from easy to difficult. Along the edge of Pipa Beach and Tibau do Sul is the Environmental Protection Area (APA) which is under the responsibility of the Brazilian Institute of Environment of Rio Grande do Norte (Idema-RN). This is a pilot project that was started in 1998 and funded by Nucleus Eco-Pipe and acts to disseminate environmental information in the area.
Currently there are 3 sectors, with 16 trails open to the public, each with differing degrees of difficulty and vary attractions along each trail. Before leaving, visitors are asked to be informed about the conditions of the trail which are cleared and pruned each week. Everyone is asked to help maintain the ecological harmony found in these areas and minimize their impact by following the rules of the park. All of the trails are fairly short, under 1km in length, some have stairs to the beach but all are fairly accessible.
CAMINHO DO JACÚ - Light and airy trail that passes through the highest part of the estate at 80m above sea level.
CAMINHO DA JIBÓIA - Serpentine trail that descends to the most solitary corner of the forest, before rising to a thrilling encounter.
VEREDA DA MOÇA BRANCA - Lovely landscape through a tunnel where visitors seems to be playing hide and seek with the sea.
ESCADA DO VELHO CASTELO - By exciting rhythm of the surf, this staircase leads from Toca da Prainha Caipora to light, lookout point for the boats and dolphins.
PASSEIO DO PEROBA - Graceful path that winds along the cliffs of the tip of the Log, enjoying views poetic, sometimes south, sometimes north.
CAMINHO DOS PIRATAS - Includes exciting rope ladder by which one reaches the inlet of the Log, ripe for the swim.
RASTRO DO TATU - It takes the visitor back to the entrance, winning the slope smoothly. Avoids the risk associated with the rise of the gravel road, used by cars.
CAMINHO DO CHORRÓ - Small "appetizer" that leads visitors to the "waiting room" to the top of the other tracks, giving you the chance to test their fitness for the biggest hikes.
VÔO DO VAGA-LUME - Zigzag trail celebrating the small insect that is the sorcerer of the dark winter nights. Ends at Ladder Maracajá.
DESCIDA DO MARACAJÁ - Steep staircase down from the magical Lookout Half Moon up the mirror of the Full Moon.
CAMINHO DO CAMALEÃO - As the name suggests, is a track with many changes of color, mood, visual and other points of interest.
TRILHA DA AVENTURA - Just for kids! Full of Surprises! You must take the special leaflet to participate in this game.
Hours: Beach visitors are allowed to enter until 4pm and asked to return to the gates by 5pm to allow for the closing of the gates.
