São Miguel do Gostoso Beach in Natal
This beach is on the north coast, and 112 km from Natal, while being fairly far from downtown Natal, it has been developed far more than other beaches along the coast. São Miguel do Gostoso, is also known as Gostoso, which literally translates to Tasty.
Known as the "corner of the continent", its intense and strong winds made it a worldwide cult place for practicing windsurfing and kitesurfing. Of the four beaches, Ponta do Santo Cristo is said to have the best waves. For those who who do not have any experience with these sports, there are teachers available which teach the best techniques and offer equipment rentals.
Despite the growing tourism potential, the famous tranquility, peculiar to São Miguel do Gostoso, is still unbroken. Fishing boats sailing on the blue sea, near the beach of clear sands is a perfect example of mother nature at her best. This place is so well hidden from the public that not even cell phone signals reach here.
In Xepa Beach, a municipal warehouse brings together all the arts and crafts produced in the city. Some of the more traditional pieces include sets of towels and bed linen with various designs and shapes common to the area. Another must see, about 15 kilometers from the city, is the Touros Beach (10458) which is at the tip of the contitent, with the Farol do Calcanhar, the tallest lighthouse in the country. The lighthouse stands at 65 meteres tall, and includes a view of all the beaches in region. Restaurants and inns have had a lot of development in the area and offer up a good number of options for vacation goers. Amoung the "pousadas", is the Pousada do Gostoso (www.pousadadogostoso.com.br), with rates ranging from R$ 135.00 to R$ 205.00.
