Natal Aquarium
The Aquarium is located between the Oceânica Avenue and the beach. The Aquarium has roughly 60 marine species, in roughly 30 aquariums. Some of the species are mixed together, while others are left on their own. The exhibit includes several species of fish (including the famous piranhas), sea horses, shrimp, lobsters, stingrays, and an octopus. In a separate and refrigerated part of the aquarium there are a couple of penguins. Most of the species were collected along the Rio Grande do Norte coast.
The Natal Aquarium is privately run by a family of biologists and retired environmentalists, and besides the exhibits, the aquarium also serves as a surgery center for injured sea animals.
