This beach on the south coast is a preferred beach for many vacation goers.    With many restaurants and hotels, this beach possesses one of the most lively areas for Carnival on the South Coast.  Barreta Beach is also surrounded by beautiful coral reefs which form natural pools, and are continuations of the Tabatinga and Camurupim reefs. 

Tupi Indians used to live in this area, fishing.  Nowadays, it is still possible to find anglers fishing during much of the year.  The beach is busy during carnival and holiday seasons, with the main attraction being a cave called 'Stong Hollow', made from granite and which only appears at low tide.  Locals say that couples should enter the cave on their hands, and when they leave, the feeling of freedom will encompass them and the singing of the sea will receive them, with the blessing of the goddess 'Yemanjá'.

To the sound, there is Malembá beach, which is a haven for kite surfers.  The sea is very strong at that beach, with large waves crashing into rocks, which is a beautiful sight for locals and tourists alike.

This beach is roughly 55 km from Natal in the city of Forest Nisia.  If you wish to continue onto Malembá beach, you will either need to walk the length of Barreta beach or use a 4x4 vehicle to drive along the sandy beaches, as there are no paved roads.
