Alberto Maranhão Theater in Natal
This theater is listed by the Historical and Artistic Heritage of Rio Grande do Norte as historical monument, and is part of the Natal Historic Center, an area which includes the districts of Ribeira and Cidade Alta. The architecture of teatro Alberto Maranhão has many french influences and elements from the last century, including the Belgian ceramic flooring and the architecture of the audience entrance to the theater.
Construction on Teatro Alberto Maranhão began in 1898 and by 1910, the then named Theatro Carlos Gomes, had the form of a cottage, which was 18 meters wide by 78 meters long, with three ports and a sculpture done by Mathurin Moreau, which aptly named "Art", crowning the facade of the building. Later on, it gained an upper floor, french iron railings and gates known as Val de Osnes Foundry, as well as more artwork on the facade of the building. In 1957, the theater was renamed by the municipality to Teatro Alberto Maranhão.
