Sibaúma Beach

This area originated from the former Quilombo tribe, which has kept it's traditional fighting spirit and which culturally still exists today.  Sibaúma Beach is part of a traditional fishing village and is the main activity here, but tourism is showing up more and more, with more guesthouses, and friendly beach bars.

Surrounded by cliffs, Sibaúma Beach is often deserted at high tide, but during during low tide the water is calm, only becoming rougher as the tide rises.  Naturally speaking, the area has beaches, beautiful cliffs, along with a stretch of Atlantic Forest, and the river of Rio Catu, where it meets the ocean.  Put simply, it has lots of natural beauty to enjoy.

The majority of the area has a constant sea breeze, beaches with fine sand, and gently breaking waves.   However, there is also an area called Lajo, which is an attraction to local surfers and situated at the mouth of the Catú river, which separates Tibau do Sul and Canguaretama districts.    Tourists are always delighted to put their chairs and towels down in this area during low tide to enjoy the meeting of fresh water from the river with the salty ocean water.  Tents along Sibaúma Beach serve delicious fish and shrimp accompanied by coconut water or ice-cold beer.   The Catú River can be crossed on foot at low tide, or by car using a human powered raft, or by car through a land bridge near the local shrimp farms.

The next two nearest beaches include Barra de Cunhaú Beach, and the very popular Pipa Beach.
