Chapada dos Veadeiros (cities of Alto Paraíso and São Jorge/GO)
Ecotourism, adventure sports, relaxation and mysticism are some of the options for those visiting Chapada dos Veadeiros. The area covers five cities in the State of Goiás, in a total of 15,267 km².
Parque Nacional da Chapada dos Veadeiros, considered Natural World Heritage by Unesco, is one of the areas with greatest biodiversity in the country. In this region is the highest point of Planalto Central, with 1,676 meters above the sea level. Besides the canyons, rivers, waterfalls and thermal waters, chapada tells the story of the Brazilian people.
Tourists can visit the villages of Engenho and Vão do Moleque, developed from quilombos called Kalungas. Among the most famous cities in the region are Alto Paraíso, São Jorge and Cavalcante. The first one is known for the mysticism and esotericism, receiving visitors from all over the world. Around 40 km from Alto Paraíso is São Jorge, considered the ecotourism center of Chapada. It has good infrastructure in terms of hotels, inns and restaurants, and much nature to be discovered. As for the city of Cavalcante, it is the door to Chapada dos Veadeiros. The city has more than 100 waterfalls surrounded by canyons, the ideal environment for adventure sports.
