Pólo Canoa Quebrada

This old fishing village in Aracati was discovered by hippies in the mid 1970's, who enjoyed the hospitality and who were well received by the natives of this scenic location.   Since this original discovery, the area has become a large center of tourism, roughly 175 kilometers from Fortaleza.

Besides the overwhelming landscape and scenery here, one of the greatest attractions include the famous dune buggy tours that run through the sand dunes along the beaches, along the red cliffs, and offer refreshing stops along the way in the blue-green calm ocean waters.  Look at reserving a day for sailing, which is offered on native fishing boats, known as jangadas.  Another day for horseback riding along the beaches.  You might want to investigate kite surfing, cliff gliding, capoeira dancing, or simply adventure through the fishing villages dur long walks through the ecological trails that cut through Canoa Quebrada. 

As the sun sets, the views from the tops of the dunes is spectacular, and they say that lovers who observe the sunset are destined to be married.   

From Fortaleza there are buses that depart daily.  Many agencies offer several options for day trips to these beaches.  The region also includes the towns of Eusebius, Aquiraz, Pindoretama, Cascavel, Beberibe, and Aracati Icapuí, which are all very beautiful in themselves.  For those looking to stay longer here, there is a good amount of infrastructure here, with many hotels to choose from.
