Praia do Santinho in Florianópolis
Santinho beach is situated in the Ingleses do Rio Vermelho district at a 40 km distance from downtown. It offers a tranquil retreat for visitors and residents. With its two miles long, of open water and agitated, provides good conditions for sea sports such as surfing. On the north of Praia do Santinho, after the coast, is Praia dos Ingleses, and to the south is the Moçambique beach.
Bordering the beach, the cliffs are home to an interesting collection of rock art dating back around five thousand years, one of these inscriptions, was what led to the name of the beach due to its characterization. Reports say that some fishermen were offerings to the image, which have mysteriously disappeared around the site of the 1940's.
Local culture
Some of the major cultural aspects of the site, are the maintenance of fishing, highlighted mullet fishing, held between May and July, and the practice of Farra do Boi (ox binge) that despite having been banned throughout the territory of Santa Catarina, is still cultivated.
