Sambaqui Beach

Sambaqui is both a beach and neighborhood in Florianopolis, in the district of Santo Antonio de Lisboa. The beach, roughly 17 km from the city center of Florianópolis, has calm waters, as is the channel of the island with the mainland. Azorean-style homes line the shore which offers a beautiful view of downtown Florianopolis.

Roughly 1 km long, the beach derives its name from the existence of heaps of shells scattered along the sandy beach, which sometimes reveal fossilized animals, as well as remnants of ancient Indian communities of the region.

Sambaqui has excellent seafood restaurants - some with privileged view. The look is one of the greatest attributes of Sambaqui beach. Besides the typical landscape of the nineteenth century, presents a panoramic view of the North Bay and the mainland. It is precisely because of this view that many bars have been installed in recent years. There are no hostels in Sambaqui, but Santo Antonio de Lisboa is very close and offers good stay. The cultivated oysters consumed in the island of Florianopolis come from the Sambaqui.

Directions: Take the Waterfront north toward the North Island, the SC 401, then exit to Cacupé, go toward Santo Antonio de Lisboa and Sambaqui, passing through St. Anthony of Lisbon and then to Sambaqui Beach.

Location: The beach is located on Sambaqui, continuation of the road from Santo Antonio de Lisboa Beach.
