Ribeirão da Ilha is ideal for: hiking, leisure, food, visits to historical heritage. Situated in the South Bay on the island, 27 km away from downtown, the district of Ribeirão da Ilha was the first European community of Florianópolis. Historians date the arrival in 1506 of the first European navigators to the site, and in the eighteenth century its population effectively.
The many small beaches in the district have very calm waters and sand. It has the ideal landscape for a family outing or a nice romantic date. The preserved Azores typical houses is one of the strongest features of Ribeirão da Ilha, one of the most important architectural history of the island of Santa Catarina. The narrow streets and tranquil life of the residents give a special charm to Ribeirão da Ilha.
It is worth visiting the Church of Nossa Senhora da Lapa, built in 1806 and visited by Dom Pedro II in 1845, and the Eco-Museum of Ribeirão da Ilha, which brings together an eclectic collection, recreating environments of Azorean colonization. Another major attraction of the Ribeirão da Ilha are several excellent restaurants that is in place, many on the seaside, which provides a fantastic visual for the visitors. Many local restaurants are known to be among the best of Florianopolis, especially in the preparation of oysters, as Ribeirão da Ilha is the largest producer of oysters in Brazil.
