Jurerê Beach in Florianopolis
In the neighborhood of Jurerê, northern of Santa Catarina island lies the Jurerê beach. With its famous emerald green warm waters, long and calm waves, this fine and clear sandy beach is between Canasvieiras and Forte beaches.
This beach, the most traditional of the island of Santa Catarina, for its strategic position, together with the tip of land to the west, had the first name of Ponta Grossa, in reference to the tip which was chosen to locate one of defense points of the island of Santa Catarina. Adjacent to the bay is Fort São José da Ponta Grossa, one of the historic fortifications of Florianópolis.
On land, the neighborhood is divided into two parts, with different characteristics. In the left corner is the International Jurerê residential subdivision. Fully planned, has parks, supermarkets, open air shopping center, bars, fine dining and ample parking for those who just want to spend a day at the beach. These characteristics have attracted people concerned with the comfort and quality of life, which turned the place into a kind of mansions park. Every year the beach helds the Ironman Brasil Triathlon Florianópolis
At the right is the part known as Traditional Jurerê. There are the oldest inhabitants of the neighborhood, with its touch of manezinho (a popular designation of the Florianópolis natives) and restaurants with typical cuisine of the island. This part is home to the Yacht Club of Santa Catarina, with a pier that has access via the beach.
Location: 23 km from the center of Florianópolis, between Forte and Canasvieiras.
