Florianópolis - Fortaleza do Anhatomirim
The Fortress of Santa Cruz, located on the island of Anhatomirim, was the main fortification of the old defensive system of the island of Santa Catarina, designed and built by Brig Portuguese José da Silva Paes from 1739. This system was also composed by the strength of Sao Jose da Ponta Grossa, Santo Antônio de Ratones and Nossa Senhora da Conceição de Araçatuba.
Belonging to the Navy Department, the Fort Anhatomirim was listed in 1938 as National Historic and Artistic Patrimony, with reckless abandon remaining years until rediscovered and restored in the '70s and '80s, when it passed into the care and maintenance of the Federal University of Santa Catarina.
Currently, the fortress of Santa Catarina, managed by the University, constitute one of the largest and best-preserved sets of military architecture in Brazil, and one of the main points of tourist attraction in Santa Catarina. The Fortress Anhatomirim hosted the first government of the Province of Santa Catarina, the first to be adopted by UFSC in 1979, and also the first to be restored.

The Fortress is located in Isle of Anhatomirim - North Bay - Governador Celso Ramos, Praia do Forte, North Island of Santa Catarina (Florianópolis / SC), distant about 25 km from downtown Florianopolis.
You can reach this through the Fortress Rodovia SC-401 (km 13), Clover Jurerê, following the signs, through Jurerê Beach International. Access can also be done by boat, and, in this case, the land at the pier Jurerê Beach, about 3 km from Fortaleza.
