Armação Beach in Florianopolis
The 3.20 km Armação Beach, also called Armação do Pântano do Sul, is pretty quiet ... in the "centrinho" at one end there is trade, the houses, the village of fishermen, their boats, the restaurants on the beach ... as you walk to the other end, the beach becomes deserted, and then they come up with surfers. The beach is very tasty and worth a visit!
Located 25 km from downtown Florianópolis, Armação Beach is a major fishing center on the island as well as one of the most important archaeological sites in the state of Santa Catarina. The Church of St Anne, built in 1772 is the main attraction. It was there that the crew of the whaling harpoon, would confess and attend the mass before the fishing begins. Then the priest would come down to the beach to bless the boats going to the sea. Almost nothing is left from the original church, though it retains many features of the reform made in 1838. Another, conducted in 1948, completely changed the original facade of the building. It receives tourists and surfers all year round. Despite a good amount of waves, is good for swimming. Armação tour boats leave for Ilha do Campeche.
Directions: Take the south of the island, and then follow the signs towards Morro das Pedras Beach.
