Paço da Liberdade Cultural Center in Curitiba
The old building of City Hall was restored and reopened as the Palace of Liberty in March 2009.
Built from 1914 to 1916 in the old Market Square, according to the design engineer and Mayor Candido de Abreu. The building of City Hall was the City Hall of Curitiba to 1969 and home of the Museum of Paraná, from 1973 to 2002.
The historical building of eclectic architecture with art nouveau elements, it was listed by the Institute for National Artistic and Historical Heritage - IPHAN in 1941. The restoration has retained all the external characteristics of the building.
The current Palace of Liberty is a multifunctional cultural center run by the SESC Paraná, which received a concession from the municipal government for 25 years.
The cultural activities include courses, exhibitions and lectures.
There are four floors. The ground floor has room for free internet access, library and the Palace Café do Paço. The second floor has classrooms, Cine Pensameneto and the Laboratory of Electronic Arts. The third floor is home environments for conferences, artistic performances and recordings from independent bands. The top floor houses the Space and Studio Arts Educational.
The main entrance is on the square Generoso Marques. The entrance to the Café do Paço is made by José Borges de Macedo, downtown.
