Mother´s Day
Brazilian Mother's Day is celebrated on the second Sunday in May, and is considered a very important date. It is the second most important gifting holiday, on which over half of all gifters purchase a gift. That puts Mother's Day right behind Christmas in gifting popularity.
Weeks before Mother's Day advertisements on television, newspapers and radio stations enhance products in special offers and promotions. It is common to find the city shopping malls crowded on the eve of the date, with parents and children running around and looking for gifts to give to their mothers, wives and in-laws.
Each year, diverse products advertisements are renewed and offered as gifts for the distinguished Brazilian mothers. From home appliances, which are much in demand, up to that long awaited trip. Websites also invest in the date, and many of them open sales, promotions and benefits, with certain deadlines, without shipping and the convenience of receiving the gift at home. Mother´s Day is also a very busy time for florists in Brazil.
Mother's Day is usually celebrated at home with the family, a generous lunch and many gifts. Mother's Day being celebrated on Sunday, some schools prepare children for the feast of mothers at school, usually on the school day preceding the Sunday. The kids presentations on the topic, the playful activities for the day and souvenirs to the mothers are part of the traditions of the date.
