Parque Nacional Grande Sertao Veredas

The Brazilian savannas National Park is situated on the border between the states of Minas Gerais and Bahia, with headquarters located in the municipality of Chapada Gaucho. It has an area of 231,668 ha. The perimeter of the park is 282341.956 meters. It is administered by the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio).

The name of the park is a tribute to João Guimarães Rosa, one of the greatest writers of Brazilian literature, whose masterpiece was the Great Wilderness: Footpaths, which highlights the plight of the hinterland.

The park preserves part of the plateau called the Central Plain, which divides the basins of the São Francisco and Tocantins.

The vegetation is dominated by savannah, making the country's largest park with this predominance. There are gallery forests along the rivers, where one can find many buritis. Pacari are common and the yellow-ipe.

Among birds, there is the presence of emus. Note also the presence of the giant anteater, maned wolf and the pampas deer.
