Palácio Lauro Sodré, home of the Museum of Pará in 1994, is an imposing neoclassical building, built according to plans by the Italian architect Antonio Landi, the eighteenth century. Foi erigido para ser a sede do poder público estadual e, concomitantemente, abrigar o Governador Geral da Província e sua família. It was erected as the seat of state government and, concomitantly, to house the Governor General of the Province and his family. Dentre as muitas reformas, adptações e/ou acréscimos por que passou, foi determinante a empreendiada pelo governador Augusto Montenegro, no início do século XX.
