Bosque Rodrigues Alves Botanical Garden
The Bosque Rodrigues Alves, inspired by the Bois de Boulogne in Paris, is a preserved piece of the Amazon forest in the middle of the city. It consists of a primary forest land preserved from the late nineteenth century and presents a great diversity of plant and animal species characteristic of this ecosystem.
Among the collections are more than 80 000 species of vascular plants and wildlife species, especially those that are threatened, as well as thousands of cultivated species of economic importance and their wild relatives.
The fauna is rich in species regional housing captive animals and other species in the wild. There is also an aquarium with several species from the Amazon, an orchid house, lakes, caves, waterfalls and even a replica of the mountain.
In addition, the Coordination of Wildlife receives undergraduate courses in veterinary medicine, biology and wildlife management technicians and uses the same routine activities and the development of more specific research projects. The goal is the analysis and evaluation of the biology of animal species in the Woods, training database on the Amazonian fauna and inter-institutional activities.
The Grove is an important leisure area of the city, a tourist attraction and a unique opportunity to enjoy nature, live a little history, fauna, flora and architecture of the region.
