Botanical Garden of São Paulo
Currently the Botanic Garden is part of the Botanical Institute of São Paulo and is geographically placed in the Parque Estadual das Fontes do Ipiranga, known as the State Park. Its area of 360,000 square feet of rainforest is home to 380 species of trees used for research and conservation. In addition to vegetation, it is possible to observe some animals, such as the green-billed toucans, sloths, monkeys and rodents that live freely in place. Check out some of the local attractions.
Alameda Fernando Costa - is the first attraction that visitors will encounter. Totally renovated, the building is a walkway with 250 meters long, made of wood from reforestation, where you can observe the natural forest and the crystal clear stream Pirarungáua. It was designed to facilitate accessibility for people with reduced mobility.
Pirarungáua Creek - Pipeline for several decades, the Pirarungáua Creek, a tributary of the history of the Ipiranga Creek, outcrops in the open in 2008, and is the new attraction at the Garden. On his deathbed run clear water and the banks were introduced species of Atlantic Forest, which stimulate the viewer to reflect on the importance of preserving our watershed areas.
Botanical Museum João Barbosa Rodrigues - with unique architecture, built in the shape of a cross, opened in 1942 with the goal of awakening interest in the visitor survey, for the ecosystems of São Paulo and to the economic botany. It also has a historic room and a beautiful central vitro portrays our flora.
Stairs / Garden of Linnaeus - Fine staircase dating from 1928 and at the ends of the Garden of Linnaeus, who was inspired by the Botanical Garden in Uppsala, Sweden, where he worked Carl Linnaeus, considered the "father of taxonomy."
Ovens - Built in structures of English iron, is the starting point of the Botanical Garden of São Paulo. One houses tropical plants, especially of the Atlantic, while the other is for temporary exhibitions.
Lake of the Nymphs - A majestic corners of the park features. The lake formed by damming the Pirarungáua Creek, a tributary of the Ipiranga Creek, home to many plants of aquatic nymphs are highlighted in yellow, purple and pink flower symbol of the Botanical Garden.
Garden of the Senses - created in 2003, is a space that has collection of herbs, where visitors can touch the plants and feel their flavors and textures. This space is adapted to visually impaired and wheelchair users.
Spring Trail - Along the way, the visitor will enter inside the Atlantic through a 360 m trail that leads you to one of the headwaters of the Ipiranga Creek, where spring waters. The access is suitable for people with reduced mobility.
