The Cultural Center Solar do Ferrão Sting is a dynamic space for art, culture and memory. Reopened by the Secretary of Culture of the State of Bahia, in September 2008 under the new concept of "Cultural" was installed in the largest and most important monument of the polygon of the Historic Center of Salvador (CHS) - an area comprising some 10 neighborhoods of Salvador.
The house of the eighteenth century, declared as heritage by the Institute of Historical and Artistic Heritage (IPHAN) on 27 June 1938, has six floors and was built in a large gradient that goes from the Cathedral Square to the Avenida José Joaquim Seabra, former Vala Street, better known as "Baixa dos Sapateiros".
Considered the "noble house" Pelourinho, the Solar do Ferrão dates back to the time when the solar houses and were symbols of prestige social groups, economically disadvantaged.
The Cultural Center houses an art gallery - the same name - and three major collections, displayed in different rooms: the sacred art, Abelardo Rodrigues Museum, the Art of Claudio Masella African Art and Popular Lina Bo Bardi. The meeting between these two art forms allows a dialogue between the single identity matrices that contributed to the formation of the Brazilian people: the Portuguese, African and Indian.
In addition to the exhibition spaces, the Solar do Ferrão Cultural Center houses the Manuel Quirino Library, specializing in the history of Bahia, anthropology, architecture, urbanism, art and sociology, about eight thousand books and 300 periodicals. There is also a photographic archive which offers visitors the possibility of checking nearly
150 000 images of clippings built heritage of Bahia.
