More information on Prainha Beach in Rio de Janeiro
Description: Prainha Beach in Rio de Janeiro
The beach is a small strip of sand only 700 meters long situated off of Pedra Branca with rough waters which make it a popular beach for surfing. The beach is located at the end of Recreio Beach with Abricó Beach further down, which is the only nudist beach in Rio. Prainha Beach is a favorite among surfers, with perfect waves and unparalleled beauty. Located roughly one hour from downtown Rio, it is a great place to enjoy the day and has lots of parking. Prainha Beach is also sheltered by mountains which are covered by native atlantic rainforest. The natural beauty of this beach is spectacular.
Because of the mountains, it is best to get there early to enjoy the sun, which starts to hide behind the mountains by mid-afternoon. Kiosks offer the best choice for eating healthy on the beach, which serve sandwiches, juices and açaí.
Prainha Beach is accessible by Avenida Estado da Guanabara, which is the only access road to the beach and which runs it's entire length. The beach is located in the neighborhood of Barra da Tijuca.
