Description: Artesanato Casa da Cultura in Recife

Many handicrafts are found in the Casa da Cultura or The Culture House, in Recife. The building was originally built and used as the city's prison. Now the cells have been converted into 150 craft shops and the Casa da Cultura has become the biggest center of culture and art throughout the state of Pernambuco. Here you will find pieces in clay, ceramics, leather and wood. Handicrafts include dolls, chess boards, checkers boards, hats, bags, sandals and embroidery work. This is the place for you to buy souvenirs of your trip to Recife, with lots of great pieces both cultural and traditional in nature.
