Corredor Cultural de Natal

Strolling around Natal Cultural Corridor is a great way to know the most significant historic attractions in the city starting from Fortaleza dos Reis Magos, located at the Potengi River mouth, which dates back to the year of 1598 and then continuing to Ribeira (Bairro da Ribeira), one of the oldest district of the city where ancient houses and their residents reveal four centuries of history and culture.

Walk along Rua Chile (Chile Street), site of old buildings, by Potengi River which offers lots of options to choose from, with bars and nightclubs where entertainment is guaranteed.

Going further through Frei Miguelinho street, the tip is the Casa da Ribeira, place of permanent cultural programming, theater, exhibition spaces for contemporary art and cultural cafes. Following Contorno Avenue, visit the Pedra do Rosário (Rosário Stone), a special place to enjoy an astonishing sunset. By then you will have reached the Upper Town (Cidade Alta) vicinities.

The first stop is the St. Anthony Church or the Rooster Church (Igreja do Galo), as it is known by the Natal locals - "potiguares" (shrimpg eater in Tupi-Guarani language). The church was built in the seventeenth century and combines various architectural styles, alongside with amazing historic attractions such as the Franciscan Convent and the Natal Museum of Sacred Art with its pictures and images, representatives of four centuries of religious faith in Natal.

Continue your journey through history visiting the Câmara Cascudo Memorial, a building in honor of the biggest intellectual name of Rio Grande do Norte State which gathers information, pictures and objects that depict his life and work.

While in Upper Town (Cidade Alta) it is worth visiting the Church of Our Lady of the Presentation nearby. Dating back to 1694, the "Nossa Senhora da Apresentação" Church is one main symbol of faith in the city of Natal.

A great variety of souvenirs and traditional crafts of the city can be found in the Padre Maria João Square fair.
