Dunas do Rosado

The conservation unit Dunes Rosado is being created and is located in the coastal region north of the state of Rio Grande do Norte.

It has approximately 16,593.76 hectares, a perimeter of 78,485 km and is located at latitude 05 ° 00 '34''S and longitude 36 ° 51' 14''W. The northern and eastern boundary is the Atlantic Ocean, the southern and western limits are the municipalities of Areia Branca (4157 ha - 26% of UC) and Porto do Mangue (12,436 ha - 74% of UC). The climate in the region is semiarid, with rainfall between 300-500 mm / year, occurring a few months during the year. The Area de APA has biomes and ecosystems of great environmental and landscape: dunes, cliffs, dunes, wetlands and savannah.

The APA of the dunes Rosado is formed by the geographic areas that comprise the municipalities of Porto do Mangue and Areia Branca, on the northern coast of the state. It is inserted in the Southern Costa das Dunas, zoning, tourism developed by the State Government, following the tourism policy of the Federal Government, contained in the National Tourism Plan - PNT.
The general purpose of guiding the process of creation is to ensure and protect biological diversity, discipline the process of occupation and ensure the sustainable use of natural resources. For the specific objectives are set:
Keep untouched dune fields of the possible human action and humid environments that comprise the "Wildlife Refuge";
Create habitat corridors linking fragments of other UC forests in good condition;
With local communities to develop environmental education programs, focused on sustainability of natural resources;
Control the exploitation of natural resources;
Contain real estate speculation.
Among the economic activities that should be highlighted in the counties that comprise the UC Dunes Rosado is agriculture, fishing, ranching, tourism emerging with promising prospects in the Costa Blanca (the region covered by UC) and oil exploration.
Natural Aspects
UC, with respect to its natural and ecological aspects, is characterized as a coastal strip consists of a landscape formed by diverse environments, with a predominance of the following attributes:

Rosado Beach - Located 12 km from the town of Porto do Mangue, got its name because the combination of white sand dunes and gravel of a reddish color, which were mixed to form a pinkish hue. The beach has a demand coming from local and regional environment, especially the municipalities of Assu, Pending and Mossley.

The dunes are located in Rosado Beach Rosado, in the municipality of Porto do Mangue, about 10 km from Ponta do Mel.

They are completely different dunes of great beauty that fill this small, primitive village received electricity in the recent past. As the dunes of Redonda, the dunes of Rosado us to the characteristics of the desert dunes. This board is a plain ending abruptly at the coast, with a height of about 50 meters, and with reference to the estirâncio area (the area of ​​beach when the tide leaves dry). This board belongs to the barriers / sediment that has a reddish color. The contrast of the board with the constantly moving dunes gives us a very particular image of colors and shapes, in an unspoilt area, because of its space is extremely harsh (no vegetation, animals and men).

The particularity of the colors mentioned above is due to white with the red dunes of the board, who meet and mingle. With respect to the forms we have the wind as the main responsible for the forms created and recreated, as the Barcan (boomerang-shaped dunes that form with influences from the Windward and Leeward).
