Chile Street - Natal Historic Center

Chile Street in the old quarter of Ribeira, has, within the geography of Natal nuances that sometimes go unnoticed by their patrons. Far from being only the street from a simple set of houses and buildings, it is, first of all, the concentration of many harmonic sensations. Given its very old cobblestone pavement  and still marked with the nostalgic tram line, you can learn a little more Natal history. It was there, for example, that Rio Grande do Norte officially knew, in 1889, that the Republic was proclaimed. "Man the public, giving evidence of high quality policies and very prudent, very tolerant, but firm and energetic, thoughtful and safe," as the great Brazilian historian Rocha Pombo, the then Governor Pedro Velho echoed the good news of one of the balconies Government House.

On another occasion, the palace served as a shelter for Count D'Eau. Passing through the city, the husband of Princess Isabel stayed in the former headquarters of the state executive. Long considered as the highest building and stately city, years later, the palace of the Street would be Chile's address Wander Bar, a nightclub frequented by U.S. officials during World War II.

Currently, the old palace / club / seat of government, runs a dance school. Because of the proximity to the naval port, the first pier of the city, formerly Street Customs and Trade was a major route of Natal in the early nineteenth century. Since 1850, buildings were built of stone and lime, mostly warehouses, for the receipt of cotton, sugar and dried fish. Located within the Historic Preservation Zone of the City, anyone who walks the street sees two Chile realities  At the beginning of the street, many of the old buildings are being overcome with time. The facades, colored before, gave way to the limo and the lack of zeal. Fortunately, at the end through the crossing, Chile Street reinvents itself. Further, the small mall becomes the stage for cultural events and much excitement. New colors, new air, new perspectives. The Largo da Rua Chile, is known as the place which shelters nightclubs, bars, and still hosts events like the ENE - Natal's Meeting of Writers, and former address of one of the largest independent music festivals in the country, Mada - Music, soul food.

In mid-2002, Chile Street was renamed. At least part of it. The Broad Street has become Chile Bohemian Largo Dr. José Alexandre Odilon Garcia, named after the journalist, sportsman, writer, and above all, Bohemian Joe Alexander.
